Cookies and browser storage
| Name | Type and purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
gm_session | Essential first-party, HttpOnly session cookie used to keep you signed in. | Up to 30 days |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics cookies used for site measurement when analytics is enabled. | Set by Google Analytics according to the configured expiry; cookies may be renewed on later visits and can be cleared in your browser. |
getmyai.analytics.consent | Local storage value recording an explicit analytics choice (granted or denied); this is not a cookie. | Until browser storage is cleared or changed |
ig:lang | Local storage value remembering the selected interface language; this is not a cookie. | Until browser storage is cleared or changed |
How analytics choice works
Before the first choice, the service uses the request IP with a local country database to decide whether to show an opt-in prompt. For visitors identified as being in the EU, EEA, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, and when location is unknown, analytics starts off and the prompt is shown. Elsewhere it starts on by default. You can turn it on or off at any time with Legal → Cookie Notice → Settings in the footer; an explicit choice is saved in local browser storage. Advertising storage and ad personalization are disabled.
Google Analytics records page and interface usage events with pseudonymous identifiers. The implementation filters out email addresses, question text, custom topic names, and raw article URLs. If you choose to disable analytics, the site stops sending analytics events and attempts to clear its Google Analytics cookies.
Google sign-in and third-party pages
Google Identity Services is loaded to provide Google sign-in. Google may use its own cookies or similar storage as part of that feature, subject to Google's policies. Payment and billing pages are hosted by Stripe; links to news sources open third-party sites. Their browser storage is controlled by those providers.
Managing browser storage
Use Legal → Cookie Notice → Settings in the footer to change analytics preferences. You can also clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Clearing the session cookie signs you out; clearing local storage removes the saved language and analytics choice.
